CAMPING IN THE AFRICAN WILDERNESS

Bush Ways offers two distinct styles of mobile camping safaris: ‘adventure camping,’ where guests participate by putting up and taking down their tent, and ‘premium camping,’ a more indulgent experience where every aspect of camping is expertly managed by dedicated staff.

ADVENTURE CAMPING

For the Adventure Camping safaris, guests are only required to set up and pack their tents and help out getting their luggage in and out the trailers. All cooking, cleaning and any other camp chores are taken care of by the Bush Ways Safaris team made up of one guide, one camp assistant, and on selected departures one interpreter.

EQUIPMENT AND SERVICES

Bush Ways Safaris provides guests with:

2.1m x 2.1m x 1.75m dome tents to share (single on request – extra charges apply);
a 5cm high-density foam mattress per guest (extra mattress on request – extra charges apply);

Note: camping is primarily done in wild areas of untouched nature, parks and game reserves that are completely wild and unfenced with no facilities or equipment, our teams set up a full camp including:

shared bush toilets and bush shower
a mobile kitchen and dining area.

Guests need to provide their own drinks. Tea , coffee and filtered water complimentary while at camp. Guests should bring their own water bottle.

Guests should bring their own sleeping bags and pillows but can also request to rent from us (extra charges apply)

VEHICLES

All transfers and game drives are done in our own custom-built safari vehicles.

They have:

The clear side perspex windows are typically removed and stored at the rear to enhance game viewing but can be slid closed on each side in case of chilly or rainy weather.
Option to lower the windscreen and roll back the roof flap to provide optimal game viewing opportunities.
There are four rows of seats, accommodating up to 16 passengers, but we limit it to 12 for Adventure Camping safaris to ensure comfort and better viewing.
A fridge is located under the front row for keeping drinks cool at all times.
Water filtration system
Power point for recharging camera batteries during the safari.
Personalised guided experience with no barrier between the guide and guests, facilitating a rich learning experience about the wildlife, ecosystems, and flora of the area.

MEALS

For breakfast, we provide cereals, toasts, rusks, tea, coffee, milk, jams and butter.
Lunches feature a variety of salads changing every day that can include: tuna salad, couscous salad, rice salad, pasta salad, etc. along with cold cuts cheese and bread.
For dinner, we cook everything on the fire and guests enjoy barbecues, stews, stir-frys, with a selection of red meat or chicken, vegetables and carbohydrates. Small treats are offered as desserts every evening.

Drinks are not included in Adventure Camping, guest will go drinks shopping with their guide.

CAPACITY

Departures are guaranteed as soon as one guest is confirmed on a safari. Maximum 12 participants.

PREMIUM CAMPING

The Premium Camping is a camping safari that does not require any participation from guests. All camp set-up and camp chores are carried out by our teams. There is one guide (and on selected departures an interpreter) with the guests at all times and a backup team (camp assistants/chefs) in a backup vehicle setting up and breaking camps, cooking meals, etc. Tents are more spacious than on the adventure camping safaris and feature extra conveniences. Groups are smaller for even more comfort and personalized service and attention.

EQUIPMENT AND SERVICES

Bush Ways Safaris provides guests with:

Wide frame walk in mini meru tents to share (single on request – extra charges apply)
One camp bed with mattress and all necessary bedding included per guest.
Each tent has an ensuite ablution section with direct access from the tent, which includes a bucket shower and bush toilet, along with a small stand with mirror, bowl and jug for water.

As we camp in wild areas, parks and game reserves that are completely wild and unfenced with no facilities or equipment, our teams set up a full camp including a mobile kitchen and dining area.
